Special issue on civets, genets and oyans
We have now published the special issue. Submitted papers will be published and go online as soon as they are finalised.
This special issue will contribute towards closing the current knowledge gaps affecting the conservation of civets, genets, and oyans. We are particularly interested in receiving submissions from range-country authors with records or data on the following topics:
- Threats including illegal and legal trade, local or regional trends in hunting, demand as pets, commercial breeding, human-viverrid conflict, and failing habitat protections;
- Legal and policy aspects relevant to viverrids, including changes to protected area status and trends in commercial trade;
- Locality records, particularly from little-known species and/or little-known areas. We are particularly interested in new locality records for any of the group’s threatened species, comprising: Malabar Civet, Owston’s Civet, Otter Civet, Large-spotted Civet, Binturong, Hose’s Civet, Sulawesi Civet, Crested Genet, Bourlon’s Genet, and West African Oyan. Submissions on the family’s two data deficient species, Ethiopian Genet and King Genet, are also strongly encouraged.
- The cultural significance of viverrid species in relation to their conservation;
- Insights from zoos, including best practices and lessons learned (positive and negative) from ex situ breeding programs;
- and translations of relevant material from languages other than English.
